The World Grand Prix reaches the quarter-final stage on Friday evening, with four matches taking place at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester.
Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen have already been knocked out, leaving the tournament wide open heading into the business end of the week. Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price are among the leading contenders remaining, while former champion James Wade is also firmly in the hunt.
As ever at the World Grand Prix, players must start and finish every leg on a double, adding another dimension to the contest.
Tonight’s quarter-finals are played over the best of five sets, with the action getting underway from 7pm on Sky Sports.
Here are our three best bets for Friday night.
Nathan Aspinall v Ryan Joyce
Tip: Nathan Aspinall to hit most 180s
Ryan Joyce has already caused plenty of damage in Leicester this week, eliminating Michael van Gerwen before following that with an impressive 3-0 victory over Danny Noppert.
However, the 180 market could provide a better angle than backing either player to win.
Aspinall produced an excellent performance when beating Luke Woodhouse 3-0 in the previous round, averaging 96.27 and firing in eight maximums. That followed three 180s against Kevin Doets in the opening round.
Joyce, meanwhile, failed to hit a maximum against Van Gerwen and managed just one against Noppert.
That gives Aspinall a significant scoring advantage in this particular market. Joyce is more than capable of making this competitive through his finishing, but if Aspinall maintains anything close to his previous scoring levels, he should come out on top in the maximum count.
BackYourBet selection: Nathan Aspinall to hit most 180s
Gerwyn Price v Jonny Clayton
Tip: Over 4.5 sets – 21/10 (BoyleSports)
This could easily be the match of the night.
Gerwyn Price has looked extremely comfortable in Leicester so far, winning both of his matches without dropping a set. He followed a 2-0 victory against Sebastian Bialecki with a convincing 3-0 success over Ross Smith.
Jonny Clayton has faced a slightly tougher route, but the 2021 World Grand Prix champion showed his quality when defeating Wessel Nijman 3-1 in the previous round.
Clayton averaged 93.08 and produced eight 180s in that victory, suggesting he is playing well enough to cause Price plenty of problems.
Both men also have excellent records in this unusual double-start format. Price won the tournament in 2020 before Clayton lifted the trophy a year later, beating Price 5-1 in the final.
Price deserves to be favourite based on his form, but Clayton looks capable of pushing his fellow Welshman all the way.
In a best-of-five-set contest, backing the match to reach a deciding set appeals more than taking a short price about either player.
BackYourBet selection: Over 4.5 sets – 21/10 (BoyleSports)
Gian van Veen v James Wade
Tip: James Wade to win – 4/5
James Wade continues to show why he should never be underestimated on the big stage.
The two-time World Grand Prix champion booked his quarter-final place with a 3-1 victory against Stephen Bunting, averaging around 93 in another accomplished display.
Wade has enjoyed an excellent 2026 season and his experience could prove particularly valuable in this format. His doubling has always been one of the strongest areas of his game, which naturally makes the double-in requirement less troublesome for him than it can be for others.
Gian van Veen deserves plenty of respect after beating Dirk van Duijvenbode and Ryan Searle, but he has yet to produce his best darts this week. He needed all five sets to overcome Searle in the second round.
Wade has been performing at a higher level and his consistency on the doubles could ultimately make the difference.
With relatively little between the pair in the match betting, Wade looks the more attractive option.
BackYourBet selection: James Wade to win – 4/5
BackYourBet’s World Grand Prix Best Bets
Nathan Aspinall to hit most 180s
Gerwyn Price v Jonny Clayton – Over 4.5 sets – 21/10 (BoyleSports)
James Wade to beat Gian van Veen – 4/5
Friday’s quarter-finals should provide the most competitive night of the tournament so far. Price against Clayton is particularly difficult to call, which makes the deciding-set angle appealing, while Wade’s experience could prove important against Van Veen.
